One Box Can Spotlight: Greater Moncton SPCA

Published by

For every meowbox sold, meowbox donates a can of cat food, or monetary equivalent to a shelter or rescue. This month, we donated to the Greater Moncton SPCA in Moncton, New Brunswick.

The Moncton Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) is the largest animal shelter in the area, taking in over 3000 homeless, sick and injured animals every year. The organization was founded in 1955 by Moncton resident Constance Hoover, and operated by a few of her friends until she acquired the funding to hire staff.

Despite its longstanding reputation within the Greater Moncton community, the GMSPCA still requires ongoing support from donors to continue giving its resident animals the quality care they need. The sheer volume of animals that the organization accepts annually, combined with some major obstacles within the past year (including outdated facilities and a respiratory virus outbreak among 130 of its adoptable cats), has inevitably taken a toll on the shelter.

What can you do? If you live in the Greater Moncton area and are looking to welcome a new furry friend into your family, consider adopting from the GMSPCA!
